I teamed up with Jessica Burke who is Mac's Assistant Manager in Oxford. I had the pleasure of having a one on one work shop with Jessica to learn tips and tricks for achieving long lasting make-up for brides.
I asked Jessica some make-up related questions that I get asked a lot and to also give you an inside scoop on Jessica's most recommended product for all brides.
I have oily skin - what can save me from having a melt down on my big day?
I would recommend a good primer, and a blotting powder. Something you can carry with you if necessary. I also like to use Macs long wear products to help your make-up look perfect all day.
I have never worn lip liner before I am worried I will not look natural in my wedding pictures?
Lip liner will act as a good base for the lipstick, helping it last longer (not as many touch ups) and will also help achieve a defined lip line. I would recommend a liner close to the lipstick colour, or slightly deeper than your natural lip colour this will make your lips look more defined and still natural.
At my make-up trial can I bring images of what looks I like or is this off putting to an artist?
Of course! Anything visual is great for the artists, colours and fabric swatches too. It is a collaboration between you and your artist and they want to make it perfect for you. I would keep in mind that sometimes photos have a lot of make-up/airbrushing even if it looks natural. So I recommend choosing aspects of the photo ( glowy skin, soft liner etc ) and this will also help your artist.
How important is a skin care routine?
THE most important thing! Once you have nailed skincare, you can adapt foundations/looks to whatever you like. This helps you to achieve blemish free skin and will also help products sit better on top. If you are unsure on what your skin type is, or what skin care to use, ask your artist they will help you.
I took a picture with flash on and my make-up looked white. What has happened to my foundation?
SPF is the ingredient that can create flashback, we usually do not recommend it in your wedding foundation as it can show up in your professional photos. Some translucent powders also have the tendency to create flash back because of the silica ingredient.
What is Macs most common bridal lipstick shade?
A few popular shades are Viva Glam II, Viva Glam V, Peach Blossom, Angel, Creme De Nude. And if you want something bolder try Ruby Woo, Mehr and Diva.
If you could recommend any Mac product to a bride what would it be and why?
Strobe cream! One of our staple products. Available in several shades. It has a pearlescent glow, so you can use it mixed in with foundation, on top as a highlight or underneath. It also has Vitamin E and Glycerin not only does it add moisture it works well as a primer too.
If you do pop into Oxford and visit the Mac store make sure you pop in to see Jessica and she will be able to assist you in everything. Whether it be matching foundations or recommending skin care products. Make sure you say Tangled Hair Oxfordshire sent you !
